Numbers

God, You are the same always – yesterday, today, and forever. Today, I come to You with an open heart, looking for Your wisdom as I think about the lessons in the book of Numbers, especially the story about Balaam.

God, You are Holy. You are totally right in everything You do, and You always show me the right way to live. I remember the story of Balaam in Numbers 22, where he wanted money and honour and got so mixed up that he didn’t quite follow Your plan.

Even when his donkey saw the angel of the Lord and refused to move, Balaam was so blinded by his desires that he failed to see Your clear sign. It took the voice of a humble donkey, enabled by You, to open his eyes.

You tried to guide him, but he was torn. He wanted to do what You said, but he also wanted to get ahead in the world.

Lord, I have been there too. I sometimes feel pulled between what You want and what the world offers me. Balaam’s mistake in going after what he wanted, even though You told him not to, makes me realise how crucial it is to be honest and follow You.

I want to be someone who really means what I say and does the right thing. I don’t want to be like Balaam. Help me tune into what You are saying so that I don’t get sucked into the shiny things in life or follow my own selfish dreams. Show me how to value what You say, live like You want me to, and make You the most important thing in my life.

Give me the courage to stand up for what I believe in, even when everyone around me is going after money, fame, or power. Balaam messed up by thinking about himself, but I want Your help to make choices that make You proud.

Remind me about the Israelites and how they trusted You in the desert. When life gets confusing, help me keep my faith strong, knowing that you will lead me to good places.

And when I can’t see where I’m going, help me look to You for guidance, knowing that You are fair and right. When I’m lost and don’t know which way to go, help me stop, listen for Your voice, and trust You’ve got a plan. I want to rely on You, knowing that You know better than I do and that Your love will guide me to what’s good and right. Help me trust You even when I’m in the dark, knowing that You are there to hold my hand.

God, help me be true to myself and live out Your love, being a living example of what Jesus is like.

When I’m tempted, remind me of Balaam’s dumb mistake in the book of Numbers and guide me back to what’s right. Let my life show others how amazing Your love and grace are.

Teach me to be attentive to Your presence, even in unexpected places, and to listen for Your voice, no matter how unconventional the messenger. May I, like the donkey, be instruments of Your will, guided by Your Spirit, and open to Your leading in every aspect of my life.

Thank you for guiding me, and for being with me every single day. Help me grow in faith, love, and honesty as I keep looking for You.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen.
