joy of work

There was some interesting news from Japan: Morimoto has what some would see as a dream job: he gets paid to do pretty much nothing. The 38-year-old Tokyo resident charges 10,000 yen ($71) an hour to accompany clients and simply exist as a companion.

He rents himself and had handled 4000 assignments in the past four years. (NDTV news 6 September 2022) And the news report said it was a ‘dream job’. For many people work or a job is a burden and a curse.

Creation Mandate:

God created the whole universe for human habitation. Adam and Eve were placed in the Garden of Eden. Their mandate was to work to upkeep the garden. “The Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it.” (Genesis 2:15) All day they were not supposed to roam around and eat. They had to work.

Natural:

Work is as natural as food and hunger. God has created humans to work, which gives a sense of satisfaction, meaning, and purpose in life. Adam and Eve had to work in the Garden of Eden to partner with God who is active daily, by bringing forth growth.

Laziness:

Many people do not want to work as they are lazy. Lack of discipline makes a person lazy. Hence, look for an easy way to survive and gain wealth.

Purposelessness:

Many do not have any purpose or aim in life. They just exist and try to survive what comes their way.

Enjoy Exploiting:

There are a few who are wicked, who rejoice in unrighteous acts. They wish to gain or profit at another person’s expense. They cheat or loot or extort from other people without doing any meaningful work.

No Work, No Food:

Paul writes in his letter: If anyone is not willing to work, that person should not eat also. (II Thessalonians 3:10) Labour brings benefits. (Proverbs 14:23)

Daydream:

Those who wish to gain wealth without working are dreaming in the day, which is not true.

Is my work diligent and hard?
