Kidnappers in Nigeria released five more students and the matron of Bethel Baptist High School, Kaduna State on 8 October.

The President of the Nigerian Baptist Convention, Dr Israel Akanji, announced the development and stated that four students remained in captivity. “Glory be to God,” he said. “Five of our Bethel Baptist High School students and the matron … have just been released to us this evening.

“We thank God and trust that the remaining four students will also be released. Thank you for your prayers and support.”

Around 120 students were abducted by gunmen who stormed into the Christian boarding school in the early hours of 5 July. The majority of students were freed in batches, beginning on 25 July with the release of 28 students. This was followed by further releases in August and September. Some students managed to escape their captors.
