‘Look to the LORD and his strength; seek his face always. Remember the wonders he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he pronounced.’ (vv4–5)
Psalm 105

We build out of who we are. The danger in a world consumed with watching others is that we seek to fashion ourselves in the image of another. All-embracing globalisation creates a manufactured culture that threatens to diminish, if not eradicate, all others.

The familiarity of Coca Cola serves as a useful example. First sold in 1886, it has a company mission to sell the largest number of beverages to the greatest number of people. Its logo is instantly identifiable and Coke created our modern Santa! God through Scripture reminds His disciples that they’re a product of a long, eventful history.

A people who’ve navigated many cultures and social conditions, yet retained the faith of their forebears. Indeed, if we want to know who we are and what God requires of us, we have only to turn to God’s Word. We discover generations of God’s followers intent on obeying God within challenging, often alien, contexts. Family reputation is important to God.

Our acknowledgement and representation of the family business, loving God and neighbour is critical for reflecting what is truly our international identity. It’s called the kingdom of God, ushered in by Jesus, and it is our responsibility to curate and extend it as those who’ve bowed the knee in allegiance to God. Christianity truly is a global brand.

AN ACTION TO TAKE: Where do you take your guidance from, and whose interests do you represent with your life choices?

A PRAYER TO MAKE: ‘Lord, help me to discern and to live Your way in this world, and not to be swayed by life’s many distractions. Amen.’
