Psalm 40:6–10 ‘I proclaim your saving acts in the great assembly; I do not seal my lips, LORD, as you know.’ (v9)

The vast traffic on eBay, and similar online platforms, reveals how eager people are to obtain things. We live in a society that can sustain a substantial leisure industry. Generally, we acquire something because it suits us and we want to display it, from furniture to fine clothes. We don’t acquire something to hide it from public scrutiny. It’s the same with our godly understanding. Often hard won, our heavenly wisdom is for the encouragement of others.

It also helps to define our character and aspirations. A God-centred lifestyle is expected to capture the interest of others. As such, we become spokespersons, by deed and word, of something others might choose to aspire to. Something attractive and positive.  Testimony, describing how God is at work in our life, is one way we can scatter seed into the hearts of others. This seed will hopefully germinate, take root and deliver a harvest (Mark 4:20).

Every time we speak of ways in which we personally encounter God, we build a measure of faith in our heart and our confidence in God grows. Such fresh confidence then invites us to seek further encounters. It’s how we build a life of faith, one encounter at a time. Christianity is not a faith for private deliberation. Rather, it is a public event to contribute to the overall wellbeing of all.

Scripture to consider: Exod. 3:1–6; 1 Sam. 24:1–13; Acts 2:42–47; 2 Pet. 1:12–21.

An action to take: Where have you encountered Jesus in your Christian journey? Each morning, ask God to reveal Himself to you through the day.

A prayer to make: ‘Lord, open my eyes to God encounters in my daily walk with You. Amen.’
