‘Jesus answered, ”I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”’ (vv6–7) John 14:1–6

Thomas asked a great question, ‘Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?’ Throughout history, humanity has tried to control its future. A recent article described church leaders as looking for post-pandemic confidence ‘in data and prediction’. The future will always remain uncertain; only by following Jesus in faith can we find our way.

Life offers us many ‘ways’ to live. However, most of us are looking for a way that is true; one that is trustworthy, enriching our life without disappointing us. Where we may become the best expression of ourselves, and invest in the encouragement and wellbeing of others.

A way of life offers a pattern of behaviour. Scripture reveals how God has made us and how we can maximise our life experience. There are frameworks and rules; for we know a game of soccer is ruined if players ignore the referee’s whistle or the pitch’s limitations.

Rules exist to improve our quality of life. They help us to work with others in a creative social environment. In choosing to follow Jesus’ way, I live the life I was designed for one reason why engaging with the Bible daily is essential. We cannot know where we are going without consulting God, our guide.

RELATED SCRIPTURE TO CONSIDER: Gen. 6:9–22; Isa. 30:15–26; Acts 9:1–19; 2 Cor. 5:1–10.

AN ACTION TO TAKE: Have you chosen God’s way of life? What are the challenges in entrusting your future into God’s hands?

A PRAYER TO MAKE: ‘Lord, teach me through Scripture how I might live and serve You and live a fulfilling life. Amen.’
