‘Peter replied, “Repent and be baptised, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”’ (v38) Acts 2:37–38

Response is always a matter of our will. We are masters of our personal choices. Poor choices can create habits and fears that cause dither and delay. Yet, I’m created for choices, which determine my life’s course.

I can easily make bad choices, which have unexpected consequences. These I hadn’t bargained on, but I must live with the repercussions. Good choices also have unanticipated consequences. Our choices affect our reality. It’s in dealing with all the consequences that character is forged. Lessons learnt from my personal life have forged some character that helps. What shall we learn individually and together?

Character is always forged from our decisions. My understanding of the Christian path is today so different from when I first encountered Jesus. But the intimacy and deep confidence I enjoy in that friendship with God today is the fruit of the expected as well as the unanticipated consequences of my life choices. I know the choices I have already made but what of those I have still to take?

An Action to Take: Make a choice to follow God’s way. It’s no guarantee against misadventure, but it does assure You of finding a way through by God’s grace and encouragement.

A Prayer to Make: ‘Lord, there are times when I despair in my circumstances. Yet, I’ve chosen Your way. Lead me on and build my character each step of the way. Amen.’
