‘Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers but whose delight is in the law of the LORD, and who meditates on his law day and night.’ (vv1–2)
Psalm 1

When I competed as a cross country runner, there were a number of well-known songs that I would play in my head to manage my pace. These enabled me to ensure that I competed effectively, whilst giving me confidence no matter the opposition.

Scripture is like that. We want to engage with it daily so that it becomes the refrain around which we organise all of life. Today, when I meet situations, a familiar scripture will spring to mind that helps and comforts me. I may not immediately know chapter and verse, yet I do recall and rest in God’s truth.

One thing’s certain: we will frequently be distracted by the busyness and demands of contemporary life. All too quickly such distractions cause us to deviate from God’s way that’s always rooted in Scripture.

This is why it’s important to remember that God’s Word is our guidebook for life. We have choices to make, and my intention is only as good as the action I choose to take.

Day and night we are encouraged to meditate on and to be preoccupied with Scripture. This will only happen once we make a plan to spend time with Scripture.

These Bible reading notes open a window into the Bible. The question is: will you climb through and explore the Bible more fully for yourself and choose to live by its precepts? Life is a marathon, not a sprint.

A Prayer to Make: ‘Lord, help me to make the time to sit with Your Word, to learn from You and so live effectively for You. Amen.’
