Genesis 45:8–15 ‘Tell my father about all the honour accorded me in Egypt…’ (v13)

At first it might look as if Joseph is boasting here but, if we look a little deeper, he tells the brothers to let Jacob know that God has made him lord over all Egypt. Joseph knew his dad would hardly dare believe the favourite son was not dead but very much alive and doing well.

Joseph was quite determined that Jacob should know what God had done. Are we as enthusiastic about telling others about what God has done for us? By bringing faithful testimony of what God has done in our lives, we can encourage the Body and build one another up.

In this way we build community which can be a place of great strength and comfort when times are hard. We can disciple others when we share how God has worked in our lives. When we forget to share with another what God has done for us, we miss the opportunity to encourage a brother or sister in Christ.

We can end up losing focus and decide to look at the problem instead of what God has already done. We can miss answered prayer, ending up discouraged rather than encouraged. So, let’s tell of what the Lord has done.
